Poem 2 ยท Night

Sunflowers in the Nighttime

I am the sunflower in the nighttime

living in the shadow of the moon

you were my sun

In a field of flowers, from horizon to horizon,

a sea of golden petals separates the earth from the sky

the nighttime lit up by entranced flowers

slow dancing with the wind

my beloved, I am the sunflower in the nighttime

you were my sun

Amongst this ocean of dreams, from twilight to dusk,

time held its breath for us

sunflowers in the nighttime, do not bow to the dark

they turn to face their beloved

as I've turned to you

So when your light has gone

where do I turn?

Drowned into the night's emptiness

in a sea of golden petals, I look for your loving face

yet, I cannot see your petals or your flower

Alone in this empty hour, my heart yearns for you

I am the sunflower in the nighttime

and you were my sun!

So when the darkness takes your beloved, where are you to turn?

When the music to the slow dance of your life, stops

and death sinks your memory into the night

I shout, 'where do I turn?'

Time

takes its kind breath and exhales the night away

the cloak of the moon turns

the shadow lifts

the light rises

There you are

my love

you were once a flower

and now, you are my sun.
