Poem 20 ยท Twilight
Small Rocks
You smell like
small rocks
baked in the sunshine
like childhood
It didn't matter
waiting at
the red light
we made a game
from the castles
and crystals
of our minds
It was the best day on earth
you smell like
the full moon
on a summer eve
when we lay down
our heads towards the sea
and our minds in the stars
when sugar glazed donuts
and chocolate chip cookies
were free, and plenty
like a public service
It took a wink
to get a visa
and a hug for a new passport
a handshake took you
around the world
Those were the days
when you could
trade an eyelash
for a Ferrari
and a Ferrari
for world peace
you could walk
across the Baltic Sea
and around the equator
then stop at an onsen
and take the train
to New Year's Eve
anywhere you liked
Because we danced so well
we lived with the monks
in Thailand
and since our hair
looked so good
people gifted us diamonds
that we wore
on the soles of our shoes
So come with me
let's go for a walk
we still need to
write the four paged letter
with just three words
for the whole world.
