Part IV
Twilight
Poem 19 · Twilight
Nowhere to Hide
Every morning
you keep the sun shining
for me. Eyes open,
or closed, you're there
From the sunshine of love,
there's nowhere to hide
I tried to veil my heart
behind the rice fields
in Bali, and hide it
at the Cape of Good Hope
But you still found me
Seen by love,
nowhere to hide
I went on a road trip
in a getaway van
a prisoner
of every freeway.
But it was your playlist
that set me free
Nowhere to hide
So I dove into the sound
of liquid jazz bars
swam
between the tambourines
and DJ sets
but it took just
a piano key,
to hear your soul
Nowhere to hide
I leaped over rivers
Waded
across lakes,
from Como to Léman
scrambled
through Tuscan hills —
then I saw the flowers
And the daisies
you left for me
Nowhere to hide
I meditated in the Acropolis
while the moon slept —
in a Tibetan monastery
by the Mediterranean Sea
I quieted the mind,
closed the curtain
on the trap doors
of my imaginary self
But the more I quiet the mind,
the more open is the heart
More
and more
and more
open
is the heart.
Nowhere to hide.
From your love,
nowhere to hide.
