Poem 23 · Twilight

What if?

There is a world

where every morning

people left flowers

and incense

outside their doorsteps.

There is a world

where strangers

invited you for coffee,

and cooked for you

There is a world

where smiles

were contagious

and kisses came

two or three at a time

There is a world

where schools

were palaces,

and cemeteries

were parks

There is a world

where it's common

to write poems

and people read them

to each other

just because

There is a world

where a few animals

held hands

when they slept

A world where

it's common to dream,

and for dreams

to come true

A world where

it was common to sing,

even when people died

and dance, when children

were born

A world where

people winked,

and did motions

with fingers, and hands

that meant things

A world where

the most popular things

were paintings

the holiest things

were books,

and the most famous people

played games

or sang silly songs

A world where

people just invented things

to solve problems

or to better something

or for no reason

at all

In this world,

all that people

ever wanted

is to love

and be loved

In this world

Our world.
